​Dormitory for women

2005-2014 DAC built and operated a dormitory for women in Herat city. The dormitory is now operated by the Afghan authorities and has room for 116 female students – and there is a waiting list.

The project inspired the Afghan authorities to establish similar dormitories for women other places in Afghanistan.

The young women in the dormitory are primarily under education to nurse, doctor or midwife or they are enrolled in Herat University.

​Most of the women have their homes in villages in Herat Province so far from Herat city that it is impossible to commute every day. Also women from other provinces are staying in the dormitory.​
